This type of stabilizer isn’t as smooth as the Steadicam design, but it takes out a lot of the big shakes. Plus it acts like a cage, allowing additional equipment to be easily attached. Tons of other film DIYers have made this.
-3/4″ PVC pipe
-Ten 45 degree elbows
-2 Tee connections
-3 cross pieces
-PVC adhesive and a few fasteners (I glued all but two connections. For those unions I used a couple bolts, so I could still take it apart for easy breakdown).
The beauty of PVC is how easy it is to work with. I drilled extra holes to attach more goodies.
A handle on top makes it easier to get low shots.
I left all the barcodes on to impress onlookers with my fancy equipment.
